The four rubber blocks of the X-mounts are arranged symmetrically crosswise. Their load is applied in two of the three spatial directions mainly as compression, in the third direction exclusively as shear. If the rubber blocks are located at right angles to one another, the spring constant of the mount is then the same in the two compression load directions. In the shear direction, the mount is substantially softer.
The X-mount permits a variety of connections. Depending upon the angle of the rubber blocks, different spring constants can be achieved in all three directions. The X-mount is either prestressed using the dead weight of the component to be mounted or the rubber blocks are pressed together in the pressure load direction during installation.
